How the Program Works

Decide on which marathon you plan to skate and register for that marathon. You can also simply sign up and train on your own without any marathon as your goal. Once you sign up for the marathon, you can Register for our Six-Week Online Program. Then you start training and eventually skate the marathon!

Program Content

Starting on Friday morning six weeks before the event, you will receive your first of six weekly emails. This email will describe in brief detail your training program for the week and direct you to our website for more detailed information on the five different content sections:
         • Skating Technique
         • Marathon Training
         • Stretching & Strengthening
         • Nutrition & Hydration
         • Marathon Secrets

Selecting a Program

Upon registering, you will choose your level in the following three program aspects.

   • Technique, Training, and Marathon Secrets: This is the bulk of the online training program and you can choose to enroll in one of three levels: First Time Marathoner, Two Hour Marathoner, or Advanced Marathoner. You should choose the First Timer program if you have never skated a marathon before and are unsure of whether or how well you will complete it. Also, if you have skated a marathon but had a time of over 2:40, this program is for you. You should sign up for the Two Hour Marathoner level if you have skated a marathon before and achieved a time between 2:00 and 2:40; if you achieved a time lower than 2:00 but need work on technique; or if you have never skated a marathon before but are an advanced intermediate or better skater. Finally, if you are planning to skate in the Fitness or Advanced Divisions of your chosen marathon, you should enroll in the Advanced Marathoner level.
•Stretching & Strengthening: In this content section, you will need to choose from three levels: Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. Your choice will be unrelated to your skating ability or marathon experience. You should choose the Novice level if you have no more than a casual knowledge of stretching, strength conditioning, yoga, and balance exercises. If you currently engage in a program for these activities, you should choose the Intermediate level. Only if you have detailed knowledge of these topics should you choose the Advanced level.
   • Nutrition & Hydration: Again, this content section has three different levels and is unrelated to your skating ability or marathon experience. You should choose the Novice level if you have no more than a general awareness of sound nutrition, have poor eating habits, or are fighting a weight battle. You should choose the Intermediate level if you already eat healthfully and have a solid understanding of nutrition. Finally, you should choose the Advanced Level if you are well-versed in the science of nutrition.

You should start at a conservative level when choosing your program. Remember that you can always repeat the program while training for another marathon, moving to more advanced stages. The worst thing you can do is select a training level that is too high for you, which might leave you with gaps in your knowledge or even lead you to overtrain and get injured. On the other hand, selecting a level that is too easy will not allow you to maximize your potential.

Cost of the Program

The Six-Week Online Program costs $70, which does not include the marathon
race entry.
