Is six weeks enough time to train
for a skating marathon? If you have ever trained for a running marathon, you will know six weeks would not be enough. However, a skating
marathon is undeniably easier to train for and complete than a running marathon.
While it might not be optimum, this Six-Week Online
Training Program is enough time to get you prepared
for a skating marathon. Before
you decide to join our Online Training Program, however,
you should take a few precautions. If you have never
skated before, we suggest you contactCamp Rollerblade to take a lesson. Your instructor will be able to tell you
whether you are ready for this program. If you are
not exercising at all at the moment, this program
can be a great way to put yourself on a basic exercising
track. You should check with your doctor first, though,
to make sure you are physically fit enough for the
program.
If you are already a skater and
already exercising, this program is definitely for
you. Our Training Program is broken into three levels:
for First-Time Marathoners, for those wishing to break
Two Hours, and for Advanced Skaters. We assume that
your fitness and skill level is higher if you sign
up for a more advanced program and our weekly mileage
reflects this.
Speaking of mileage, we don’t
speak of mileage. Instead, we talk about skating time.
Instead of a 10-mile skate, we might talk about a
60-minute skate. We find this is not only easier to
judge (who knows exactly how far you skate?) but it
is more comparable among different skaters.
We will provide you with a daily
training schedule for each of the six weeks of the
program. While each week will be different, there
are some commonalities:
• We focus on a long slow skate (LSS)
each week, similar to the long slow distance (LSD)
days in training for a running marathon.
• We include interval “fartlek”
training or hill training each week.
• We only skate three days each week and have
you cross-train twice. This can be one of a number
of different options, including strength training,
and gives you the ability to make your weekly workout
less or more difficult.
• We focus on not burning you out by having
two rest days each week and tapering before the actual
marathon.
Join our Six-Week Online Training
Program and skate your first marathon – for
your best time!
