Ah, the secret of skating
the marathon! Actually, there is no one secret to skating
the marathon and all the secrets in the world won’t
help if you are not training properly, skating with
good technique, eating well, hydrating, and stretching
after you exercise. Still, inside tips can make a significant
difference in your marathon. In
this section, we will present six weekly Marathon
Secrets divided into tips for First Timers, Two Hour
Marathoners, and Advanced Skaters. In the section
for First Time Marathoners, we will cover a number
of tips that you likely would never know until you
actually skate a marathon. Traditionally, results
at the first marathon someone skates can be chalked
up to a learning experience. In our Marathon Secrets
section, we hope to give you these tips prior to your
marathon so you are that much better prepared.
In the section for Two Hour Marathoners,
we realize you will probably have the experience of
one or more marathons under your belt. Therefore,
we will reveal six tips that will get you to the start
line prepared to finish a marathon in less than two
hours. Time and again we see skaters who are physically
capable of skating a faster marathon if they knew
a few of our insider tips.
For Advanced Skaters, Marathon Secrets
really starts becoming important to your goal of getting
a personal record time, placing in your age division,
or even winning the race. The six Secrets we present
all relate to pack racing strategy, since this is
the crucial element defining road skating races such
as marathons. The six secrets address having a plan,
the start, the breakaway, the finish, team tactics,
and race day hints.
Even if you don’t read
the other material in this course, these Secrets from
twelve-time World Champion Cheryl Ezzell Matula will
probably alone improve your marathon skating. |
